Among its annual activities, the Jean Monnet Action supports the holding of an annual conference where themes of high relevance for the European integration process are discussed. Since 2014, the Jean Monnet Action forms part of the Erasmus+ Programme. On 1-2 October 2014 the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture organised the annual Jean Monnet Conference, devoted this year to “The Future of EU Studies”. High-level participants attended the conference, namely the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso; Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou; Director-General of the Commission’s DG Education and Culture Xavier Prats Monné; as well as two keynote speakers: Professor Joseph H.H. Weiler, President of the European University Institute, and Professor Jörg Monar, Rector of the College of Europe. Other participants included former Presidents and several Members of the European Parliament, Jean Monnet Professors, policy makers and representatives from civil society. Dr Besirevic contributed to the Working Group 2 on EU studies: feeding results into policy-making.
